8:18AM today, the truculent squatter left my brain

The cacophany of Trump and his digital exhaust seeped into my brain space even when I didn’t want him there. As the FT proclaimed in the opening few paragraphs that he ‘lifted off’ at 8:18AM today.

“I have the champagne and cake ready” retorted one of my colleagues — not her birthday but Inauguration Day.

It is like emerging from a dark wintry forest, or an abusive relationship, or a nightmare filled with human detritus. One man, albeit possibly Gerard’s scapegoat , or the epitome of our dysfunctional society or our collective dysfunction took up way too much space. Now, Trump is symbolically ‘out’ and hopefully the prelude to leaving the space he occupied in our minds.

As I watch Biden’s inauguration , I purge him further — yes, could be symbolic if he rises up from the ashes to create a new political party or TV network, or if his spawn grace our screens in 2024..but for now, let me relish in his departure…
